Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account, accessing or using Islam Companion, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you should not use the Service.
SECTION 01

Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Islam Companion mobile application, website, APIs and related services (collectively, the "Service").

References to "Islam Companion", "we", "us" or "our" refer to the operator of the Service. References to "you" refer to the individual using the Service.

If you use Islam Companion on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

SECTION 02

The Islam Companion Service

Islam Companion is designed as a digital Muslim companion supporting features such as:

  • Quran reading and study.
  • Quran translations and tafsir.
  • Quran search and word study.
  • Quran bookmarks, notes and collections.
  • Reading goals and Hifz progress.
  • Prayer-time calculations.
  • Adhan and prayer reminders.
  • Qibla direction.
  • Dhikr and worship tracking.
  • Ramadan-related tools.
  • Personal Quran and worship planning.
  • AI-assisted Quran exploration such as Ask Quran.

Features may be added, modified, limited or removed as the Service evolves.

SECTION 03

Accounts and account security

Some Islam Companion features may require an account.

You agree to provide information that is reasonably accurate and to maintain the security of your account and authentication credentials.

You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless caused by a security failure attributable to Islam Companion.

You should notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without authorisation.

You may not impersonate another person, create accounts for abusive purposes or use automated account creation without our permission.

SECTION 04

Religious information and guidance

Islam Companion is a study and worship tool.

The Service is not a substitute for a qualified scholar, Imam, Mufti, local religious authority or other appropriately qualified person when you require a personal religious ruling or professional scholarly guidance.

Islam Companion aims to present Quran-related content using trusted data providers and identifiable sources where appropriate.

Translations are human renderings of Quranic meanings and should not be treated as identical to the Arabic Quran text.

Tafsir may reflect the methodology and interpretation of its respective scholar or source. Different recognised scholarly sources may present different interpretations.

You are responsible for determining whether information provided through Islam Companion is appropriate for decisions requiring personal religious guidance.

SECTION 05

Prayer times, Adhan and Qibla

Prayer times may be calculated using your location, date, selected calculation method, Madhhab setting, high-latitude rules and manual adjustments.

Different mosques, scholars, organisations and calculation authorities may use different methods or adjustments. As a result, prayer times displayed by Islam Companion may differ from a local mosque timetable.

You should use the calculation method and adjustments appropriate to your circumstances and may choose to follow a trusted local authority.

Qibla direction depends on geographic coordinates and may also depend on the accuracy and calibration of your device sensors.

Prayer and Adhan notifications are also affected by your operating system, notification permissions, device settings, battery-saving features, silent mode or Do Not Disturb settings.

Do not rely on a notification as your only method for determining the beginning or end of a time-sensitive religious obligation. Device and notification behaviour can fail, be delayed or be disabled.
SECTION 06

Ask Quran and AI-assisted features

Islam Companion may provide AI-assisted features intended to help users search, organise and explore Quran-related information.

Where possible, Quran-related responses should be grounded in retrieved Quran text, translations or tafsir and should identify relevant sources.

Artificial intelligence systems can nevertheless produce incomplete, incorrect or misleading output. You should review the provided source material rather than relying solely on generated explanatory text.

Ask Quran is not intended to issue binding fatwas or replace qualified religious scholarship.

You agree not to intentionally use AI features to create deceptive quotations, falsely attribute statements to the Quran or scholars, or represent generated material as an authoritative ruling when it is not one.

SECTION 07

Your notes and other user content

Islam Companion may allow you to create private Quran notes, collections, labels, goals, reflections and other content ("User Content").

You retain ownership of User Content that you create.

You grant Islam Companion the limited rights necessary to host, store, process, back up, synchronise and display User Content solely for operating and providing the Service to you.

You are responsible for the User Content you submit and should not upload material that is unlawful or infringes the rights of others.

SECTION 08

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Islam Companion to:

  • Violate applicable law.
  • Attempt unauthorised access to accounts, servers, APIs or systems.
  • Circumvent security, rate limits or access controls.
  • Introduce malicious software, scripts or harmful code.
  • Scrape, extract or reproduce protected data in violation of applicable licences or terms.
  • Interfere with the availability or operation of the Service.
  • Misrepresent generated text as verified Quran text.
  • Use Islam Companion to harass, threaten, deceive or unlawfully target another person.
  • Reverse engineer protected parts of the Service except where applicable law expressly permits it.
SECTION 09

Third-party services and Quran providers

Islam Companion may rely on third-party services for Quran content, hosting, notifications, infrastructure, authentication, analytics, diagnostics or other functionality.

Quran-related data may be supplied by Quran Foundation or other appropriately licensed providers.

Third-party content remains subject to the rights, licences, attribution requirements and terms applicable to the respective provider.

Islam Companion does not claim ownership of third-party Quran translations, tafsir, recitations or other materials merely because they are displayed through the Service.

Your use of certain third-party functionality may also be subject to the provider's applicable terms and privacy policies.

SECTION 10

Islam Companion intellectual property

Except for User Content and third-party content, the Islam Companion application, brand, interface, original software, visual design, databases, workflows, logos and other original materials are owned by or licensed to Islam Companion and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

These Terms grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purposes.

They do not grant ownership of the Islam Companion software, brand or proprietary technology.

SECTION 11

Service availability and changes

We aim to provide a reliable Service but cannot guarantee that every feature will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.

Availability may be affected by maintenance, internet connectivity, device settings, operating systems, third-party providers, infrastructure incidents or circumstances beyond our control.

We may modify, improve, replace, suspend or discontinue features when reasonably necessary.

SECTION 12

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Islam Companion at any time and may request account deletion through available account controls or by contacting us.

We may suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe an account is being used to violate these Terms, abuse the Service, compromise security or create legal risk.

Where appropriate and legally permissible, we may provide notice or an opportunity to resolve a problem before termination.

SECTION 13

Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Islam Companion is provided on an "as available" and "as is" basis.

We do not guarantee that:

  • The Service will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
  • Every third-party data source will always be available.
  • AI-generated explanations will always be accurate.
  • Prayer notifications will always be delivered at the expected moment.
  • Device compass information will always be perfectly calibrated.
  • A displayed calculation will exactly match every local religious authority.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.

SECTION 14

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Islam Companion and its operators, contributors and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

This includes, where legally permitted, losses resulting from service interruption, notification failure, inaccurate device location, incorrect sensor readings, third-party service failures, loss of data or reliance on AI-generated explanations.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain liability limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

SECTION 15

Applicable law and disputes

These Terms are subject to applicable law and do not limit consumer or other statutory rights that cannot legally be waived.

Unless applicable law requires otherwise, disputes concerning these Terms or the Service will be handled by courts or other competent forums having jurisdiction over the operator of Islam Companion.

We encourage users to contact us first so that concerns can be reviewed and, where possible, resolved without formal proceedings.

SECTION 16

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when Islam Companion changes, new functionality is introduced or legal and operational requirements evolve.

Updated Terms will show a revised effective date. For material changes, we may provide additional notice through the Service where appropriate.

Continued use of the Service after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by applicable law.
